Expressways are the beloved of the mighty traveler; enablers of a countless number of road trips, operational expressways in India like Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Himalayan Expressway, and many others, are the epitome of accessibility for those who like to travel but cannot exactly afford other means of transportation. Not only are expressways great for mileage efficiency but are also environmentally conscious.
In March 2019, Nitin Gadkari had started talks about, and laid the foundation stone for the six-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway along with Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley. Perhaps the most alluring factor about this is that it will pass through the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and of course, Maharashtra. The intention of constructing the expressway is to reduce the amount of time it takes to reach one metro city to the other, i.e., reducing it from the current 24 hours to just 12-16 hours of travel. Its length (reduced from the 1,450 km stretch between Delhi and Mumbai) is 1,250 km and is expected to be completed by 2023, as updated by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Budget speech in February 2020. Easy routes through Haryana and the aforementioned cities will be available as well. The upcoming routes will be built keeping in mind the road safety and use high-quality tarmac for it. Gadkari aims to generate more opportunities for employment through the construction of this corridor as well.
Moreover, with the coming of this expressway, there will certainly crop up food malls and restaurants around it, which will only serve to contribute to the larger idea of upliftment of the economy through industries like manufacturing and tourism. It will also provide faster transportation of perishable goods. One might also get to experience different kinds of settings while driving since the expressway covers so many cities with great views.
